In my life, I've done some cool things because of my job. I've raced on the high banks of the Daytona 500. I've spent a weekend in wine country and was wined and dined the whole time. I've went up with the Army's Golden Knights. I've flown a blimp. I've met cool people. I've been on CNN. None of those things are cooler than this story.
I have to start off by thanking Chase Murphy for sending me the video and helping arrange everything. After watching the video that KENS 5 posted about Savannah, I, along with Chase, thought we could knock a few things off Savannah's bucket list. One particular one was right up our alley. It was number 10. Later, after speaking with Savannah's family, I found out that they didn't think it could happen, but we did it.
Chase made a few calls and I started the #gomeztogomez hashtag in hopes Selena Gomez would see the tweets and respond. Chase got me in touch with the proper people to set everything up. Selena's management was completely down with Savannah and her meeting Nov 1st at the AT&T Center, so SCORE! Then I spoke with Savannah's parents and kind of got the idea that Nov 1st might be too far out. Next best thing? Facetime!
We got Savannah to the station so that she could do Facetime with Selena! Selena was so sweet and Savannah was a little shy. The smile on Savannah's face was gold. This, by far, the coolest thing I've done in radio. RIP Savannah.
