Animal rescue groups are cautious during October.
They don't want one of the symbols of Halloween, black cats, to find themselves in the wrong hands.
"We are aware but we are still doing adoptions.
We are just screening our adopters very well,"
says San Antonio Pets Alive Caryn Bottensek.
Pets---whether they like it or not---are often forced into participating in Halloween, to wear silly costumes are go along trick or treating.
But one thing that they should not
be forced into doing is eating Halloween candy.
"Some candy is dangerous to animals; try to keep it in an enclosed area and not just left out," she says.
San Antonio Pets Alive is hosting a citywide adoption event this weekend.
Pets from the Brooks City Base city facility and foster pets will be available.
